On October 28
On October 28th, we are having a teach in on Gaza. It’s free to join though we have listed two charities you can donate to if you’d like: MSF/Doctors Without Borders or The Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund.
The reason it’s not obligatory to donate is because as you probably know, nothing is allowed into Gaza. Yesterday, the Secretary General of the United Nations was standing at the Rafah border crossing with UN trucks of aids, waiting helplessly to be let in. So far, it seems only five humanitarian trucks have been allowed to pass from the UN and WHO. If you didn’t see Rahma Zein’s beautiful courage as she lambasted CNN at the same border crossing where she and a different charity were not being allowed to cross, you can watch it here and here. Of course, please give if you can, but we are not tracking donations from this event - everything you give goes straight to the charities. We are gathering to be in solidarity with the people of Gaza, to listen to Palestinian and Arab writers, thinkers and lawyers, to be allies and to educate ourselves.
The point of a teach-in is to listen and learn. And we have some amazing speakers.
Tareq Baconi: you might have seen this interview of his here
Noura Erakat: you can listen to her on Democracy Now.
Diana Buttu: Listen to her here
Isabella Hammad: you can read an interview about her last novel here
Ahmed Eldin: you should be following him on IG if you can make it past the censorship and shadow bans here.
So sign up to join us at this link. Tell your friends, bring your friends, and see you soon. It’s important that we keep speaking, keep learning and be part of a community during these terrifyingly dark times.
