I’m hearing from so many people posting and speaking out on Israel’s ethnic cleansing that they are being abused and attacked. The information is out there, plain as day and the attempt to frighten people by tying them up in pointless engagements is a distraction. To all those brave souls, I can only tell you what James Baldwin said: “There are so many ways of being despicable it quite makes one’s head spin. But the way to be really despicable is to be contemptuous of other people’s pain.”
Here are some more books to arm yourself with. And some other recommendations.
The Dig is a really incisive, intelligent podcast. I recommend subscribing to it. Definitely listen to Noura Erakat on the war on Gaza here and their Palestine teach in here.
Chase Madar wrote this in 2014 about US funding to Israel.
Palestine has a long history of non violent struggle that pre-dates Israel. They have used non-violent resistance against them many, many times. Israel always responds with massive force, as in the case of the Great Return March in 2018, or by making their allies like the US and UK and other Europeans criminalise BDS - the movement to Boycott, Divest and Sanction Israel. This form of protest helped bring an end to apartheid South Africa. You can read Omar Barghouti on why it’s more important now than ever.
I’m moderating a teach in on Gaza October 28th - it’s free to register though you can donate if you would like to. You can sign up to join us here, once you sign up you can donate to MSF or The Palestinian Children’s Fund on the same page. You’ll get the zoom link before next Saturday.
Please come and spread the word.
On October 30th, you can also attend Poets for Palestine by buying tickets here.
